Ayushman Card eKYC Showing “Unidentified”? Meaning, Reasons and What to Do

If your Ayushman Card beneficiary status is showing “Unidentified”, you may be wondering whether the application has been rejected, cancelled, or is still being processed.

The “Unidentified” status generally means that the beneficiary’s identification or authentication has not yet been completed successfully in the system. It does not, by itself, mean that the person has been rejected or cancelled.

In some cases, the beneficiary portal may also display this message:

“For Unidentified users, you cannot authenticate via beneficiary login. Kindly approach operator for authentication.”

This message means that an Unidentified beneficiary cannot complete that particular authentication step through the beneficiary login and needs to approach an authorized operator for authentication.

This guide explains what the Unidentified status means, possible reasons for it, what to do after correcting beneficiary details, and whether you should apply as a fresh candidate.

What Does “Unidentified” Mean in Ayushman Card?

When a family member appears as “Unidentified” in the Ayushman beneficiary system, their identity has not yet been successfully established through the required beneficiary identification or authentication process.

It is important to understand that Unidentified is not the same as Rejected or Cancelled.

For example, you may see the following statuses:

StatusGeneral meaning
UnidentifiedBeneficiary identification/authentication is not yet completed
IdentifiedBeneficiary has been identified, but further processing may remain
VerifiedRequired verification has been completed
ApprovedBeneficiary/card has received the required approval
Not GeneratedAyushman Card has not yet been generated
Download CardCard is available for download

The exact status names and workflow can vary depending on the beneficiary record and the current system.

Is “Unidentified” the Same as Rejected?

No.

An Unidentified status should not automatically be interpreted as a rejection.

If a beneficiary shows:

Unidentified → Not Generated

it means the person has not yet reached the stage where the Ayushman Card can be generated.

The beneficiary may still need identification, authentication, eKYC or operator-assisted verification.

Therefore, you should not submit a completely new application simply because an existing beneficiary record is showing “Unidentified.”

Why Does Ayushman Card Show “Unidentified”?

There can be several reasons why a beneficiary remains Unidentified.

eKYC or Authentication Is Not Completed

The beneficiary may still need to complete the required identification or authentication process.

Depending on the beneficiary’s status, authentication may involve Aadhaar-based verification or another permitted verification method.

Aadhaar and Beneficiary Details May Not Match

Differences in personal information can sometimes create problems during beneficiary matching or verification.

For example, there may be a spelling difference between the name recorded in Aadhaar and the name available in the beneficiary or family database.

Even a small difference may need to be corrected or checked.

However, a name mismatch should not be assumed to be the only reason for an Unidentified status. Other beneficiary-data or authentication issues may also be involved.

Operator Authentication May Be Required

Some Unidentified beneficiaries cannot complete authentication through beneficiary login.

If the portal displays:

“For Unidentified users, you cannot authenticate via beneficiary login. Kindly approach operator for authentication.”

you should follow that instruction.

In this situation, the beneficiary needs to approach an authorized operator/Ayushman Mitra who can check the beneficiary record and perform the required authentication.

Recently Corrected Information Has Not Been Updated

If you recently corrected a name or other information in Aadhaar or the relevant family record, the updated information may not immediately appear across connected systems.

This can mean that the Ayushman beneficiary status continues to show the previous status for some time.

Aadhaar Name and Ration Card Name Mismatch

Beneficiaries should check whether their personal details are consistent across the documents used during the identification process.

For example:

  • Aadhaar name
  • Ration Card/Khadya Sathi name
  • Date of birth, where applicable
  • Gender, where applicable
  • Other beneficiary information

If the spelling of a person’s name is different between records, correcting the relevant information may help resolve a matching problem.

For example:

Aadhaar:
RINA KHATUN

Family record:
RINA KHATUNN

After correcting the incorrect spelling, the beneficiary information may be easier to match.

However, matching the names does not guarantee that the Ayushman status will automatically change to Identified or Verified. The beneficiary may still require authentication or operator verification.

I Corrected the Name. What Should I Do Now?

If you have recently corrected the beneficiary’s name, there is no need to immediately submit another application.

First, allow some time for the updated information to be reflected in the relevant system.

You can then:

  1. Wait a few working days.
  2. Log in to the official beneficiary portal again.
  3. Search for the beneficiary.
  4. Check whether the status has changed.
  5. If it still shows Unidentified, approach an authorized Ayushman operator/Ayushman Mitra.

If the portal specifically says that an Unidentified beneficiary cannot authenticate through beneficiary login, the operator will need to handle the authentication.

Can an Unidentified Beneficiary Complete eKYC by Themselves?

It depends on the beneficiary’s status and the authentication option available in the system.

If the portal provides a working authentication option, the beneficiary can follow the instructions shown on the portal.

However, when an Unidentified beneficiary receives the message:

“For Unidentified users, you cannot authenticate via beneficiary login. Kindly approach operator for authentication.”

the beneficiary cannot complete that particular authentication through beneficiary login.

In that situation, contact an authorized operator or Ayushman Mitra.

What to Do If the eKYC Button Does Not Work

If you click the Authenticate/eKYC button and nothing happens, first check the beneficiary’s current status.

If the person is showing Unidentified and the portal displays the operator message, repeatedly clicking the button will not solve the problem.

Instead:

  1. Check the beneficiary’s Aadhaar and other details.
  2. Check for spelling or demographic differences.
  3. Correct incorrect information through the appropriate authority, if required.
  4. Allow time for recently corrected information to update.
  5. Check the Ayushman status again.
  6. If the beneficiary remains Unidentified, visit an authorized operator/Ayushman Mitra.

What Documents Should You Take to the Operator?

If operator authentication is required, keep the relevant documents available.

These may include:

  • Aadhaar Card
  • Ration Card/Khadya Sathi details
  • Registered mobile number
  • Details of other family members
  • Documents supporting a name or demographic correction, if applicable

The exact documents required may depend on the beneficiary record and the type of verification being performed.

Never share your Aadhaar OTP, password or other sensitive authentication information with an unknown person.

Should You Apply as a Fresh Candidate?

This is an important question because some beneficiaries may see an “Apply Fresh Candidate” option.

If the person already appears in the Ayushman beneficiary/family record and is showing “Unidentified,” do not automatically create another application.

The first step should normally be to resolve the existing beneficiary record through the required identification and authentication process.

When Is a Fresh Application Different?

A different situation applies when an eligible person is not present in the beneficiary record at all.

If the official system provides a Fresh Candidate option for that person and the person meets the applicable eligibility requirements, the fresh enrolment process may be relevant.

Before submitting a fresh application, check whether an existing beneficiary record already exists.

Creating a duplicate record when an existing record is available may cause unnecessary confusion.

Unidentified vs Identified vs Verified vs Approved

Understanding the different statuses can make the Ayushman Card process easier to follow.

Unidentified

The beneficiary’s required identification or authentication has not yet been successfully completed.

Identified

The beneficiary has been identified in the system, but additional processing or verification may still be required.

Verified

The required verification has been completed.

Approved

The beneficiary/card has received the necessary approval.

Download Card

When the Download Card option becomes available, the e-card can generally be downloaded from the beneficiary system.

Can One Family Member Have a Card While Others Are Unidentified?

Yes.

Different family members can have different statuses.

For example:

Family MemberStatus
Member 1Verified / Approved
Member 2Verified / Approved
Member 3Unidentified
Member 4Unidentified
Member 5Identified / Not Generated

This does not automatically mean that the Unidentified members have been rejected.

Each beneficiary may need to complete their own identification and authentication process.

What Should You Do If the Status Remains Unidentified for Several Days?

If you have recently corrected the beneficiary information, it is reasonable to wait for the updated information to reflect in the system.

However, if the status continues to show Unidentified and the portal tells you to approach an operator, visit an authorized Ayushman Mitra/operator rather than waiting indefinitely.

Take the beneficiary’s documents and explain that the portal is showing “Unidentified” and is instructing you to approach an operator for authentication.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Unidentified the same as rejected?

No. Unidentified does not automatically mean rejected or cancelled. It generally indicates that the beneficiary’s identification or authentication has not yet been completed.

Can I complete eKYC myself?

Some beneficiary authentication processes can be completed through the beneficiary portal. However, if the portal specifically says that an Unidentified user cannot authenticate through beneficiary login, an authorized operator is required.

I corrected the beneficiary’s name. Will the card automatically be generated?

Not necessarily. Correcting a name may help resolve a matching issue, but the beneficiary may still need authentication, verification and approval before the card is generated.

I corrected the name today, but the status is still Unidentified. What should I do?

If the correction was made recently, allow some time for the updated information to reflect. Check again after a few working days. If it remains Unidentified, contact an authorized operator.

Should I apply as a Fresh Candidate if the status says Unidentified?

If the person already has an existing beneficiary record, do not create a duplicate application merely because the status says Unidentified. Follow the required authentication process for the existing record.

Can I download an Ayushman Card while the status is Unidentified?

Generally, the card must reach the required verification and approval/card-generation stage before it becomes available for download.

Who can authenticate an Unidentified beneficiary?

If the portal instructs the beneficiary to approach an operator, contact an authorized PM-JAY operator/Ayushman Mitra for assistance.
