How to Disconnect JioFiber or JioAirFiber in 2026: Cancellation, Router Return, Refund & Final Bill

If you no longer want to use your JioFiber or JioAirFiber connection, simply stopping the recharge or ignoring the bill is not the best way to close the service.

The proper approach is to formally request disconnection, settle any applicable outstanding amount, return Jio-provided equipment and keep proof that the connection has been closed.

There is another important reason to follow the proper process:

Jio’s current terms state that the JioFiber router, Set Top Box and CPE remain Jio’s property and must be returned when the service is surrendered or terminated. JioAirFiber’s terms similarly state that its Wi-Fi router, Set Top Box and CPE remain company property.

For eligible JioFiber postpaid customers, Jio also says the security deposit is refundable after the equipment is returned and the account is closed. Its current FAQ says the refund is processed through NEFT and may take up to 60 days from the cancellation request.

JioFiber vs JioAirFiber Disconnection

The basic cancellation process is similar for both services:

Request disconnection → settle applicable dues → return equipment → Jio processes closure → receive eligible refund.

The equipment is different.

JioFiber

Depending on your connection, Jio may have provided:

  • Jio Home Gateway/router
  • Optical Network Terminal (ONT)
  • Set Top Box
  • Power adapters
  • Cables
  • Other Jio-provided equipment

Jio’s terms define Service Equipment to include equipment such as the ONT and Set Top Box and state that JioFiber equipment remains the company’s property.

JioAirFiber

JioAirFiber can include:

  • Wi-Fi router
  • Customer Premise Equipment (CPE)
  • Set Top Box, where applicable
  • Power adapters and associated equipment

Jio’s current AirFiber terms state that these service equipment items remain Jio’s property and must be returned when the service is surrendered or terminated.

How to Permanently Disconnect JioFiber or JioAirFiber

Jio’s 2025 Telecom Consumer Charter states that customers can terminate services through consumer care, written request, email or by visiting a Jio Store. It states that services will be disconnected within seven days of the request, subject to applicable equipment return/recovery.

Method 1: Contact JioCare

The simplest option is to contact JioCare and clearly request permanent disconnection.

Tell the representative:

“I want to permanently discontinue my JioFiber/JioAirFiber connection. Please register a disconnection request and provide me with the Service Request number.”

Be clear that you want permanent disconnection, not temporary suspension or a plan change.

Method 2: Use MyJio

You can use the MyJio app to manage your Jio services and contact JioCare.

If a direct cancellation option is displayed for your particular account, follow the instructions shown there.

If you don’t see a cancellation option, use the support/Chat with JioCare route and request permanent disconnection.

Method 3: Visit a Jio Store

Jio’s Telecom Consumer Charter also lists visiting a Jio Store as an option for requesting termination.

This can be useful if you prefer to make the request in person.

If you visit a store, keep any acknowledgement or reference number provided to you.

Step 1: Check Your Jio Connection Details

Before contacting Jio, keep these details ready:

  • Registered mobile number
  • JioFiber/JioAirFiber service details
  • Customer/account information
  • Current plan
  • Billing type
  • Outstanding amount, if any
  • Equipment provided by Jio

Having these details available can make the cancellation process easier.

Step 2: Request Permanent Disconnection

Tell Jio that you want to surrender/discontinue the broadband service permanently.

Don’t simply say:

“I don’t want to recharge anymore.”

Instead say:

“I want to permanently disconnect my JioFiber/JioAirFiber connection.”

This distinction matters because stopping a recharge and formally terminating a connection are not necessarily the same process.

Step 3: Get the Service Request Number

Always ask Jio for the Service Request (SR) number or other cancellation reference.

Save:

  • SR number
  • Request date
  • SMS/email confirmation
  • Chat transcript, if available
  • Any equipment-return appointment details

This is particularly important if there is a later disagreement about the date of cancellation or billing.

Step 4: Check Your Final Outstanding Amount

Ask Jio whether any amount is currently payable.

This may include:

  • Outstanding postpaid bill
  • Usage charges
  • Other recoverable amounts
  • Equipment-related charges if applicable

Jio’s current terms state that equipment return and refund are subject to settlement of applicable outstanding amounts.

Don’t assume that returning the router automatically cancels an unpaid bill.

Step 5: Return JioFiber or JioAirFiber Equipment

This is one of the most important parts of the cancellation process.

Jio’s current terms state that the equipment provided with JioFiber or JioAirFiber remains the company’s property.

JioFiber Equipment

Depending on your connection, return requirements may include:

  • Router/Home Gateway
  • Set Top Box
  • ONT/CPE
  • Power adapter
  • Cables
  • Other Jio-provided equipment

Jio’s current FAQ specifically advises customers to return devices including the Jio Home Gateway, Set Top Box, power adapters and cables when seeking the security-deposit refund.

JioAirFiber Equipment

For AirFiber, the equipment can include the:

  • Wi-Fi router
  • CPE
  • Set Top Box
  • Power accessories

Follow the collection/return instructions given by Jio.

Step 6: Keep Proof of Equipment Return

Don’t throw away the return confirmation.

Keep:

  • Collection receipt
  • SMS confirmation
  • Email confirmation
  • Service request number
  • Photos of the returned equipment
  • Any inspection/collection acknowledgement

This is especially important if a refund is expected.

Jio’s terms say that equipment condition can be assessed during the return process and that charges can apply for damage where applicable.

JioFiber Security Deposit Refund

This is one of the biggest differences between Jio’s cancellation process and a simple broadband recharge expiry.

Jio’s current postpaid FAQ says the security deposit is collected for the Jio Home Gateway/router and other Jio-provided devices.

It says the deposit is fully refundable after device return and account closure, provided the applicable conditions are met.

How Is the Refund Paid?

Jio’s current FAQ states that JioFiber security-deposit refunds are processed through NEFT directly to the customer’s bank account.

How Long Can the Refund Take?

Jio currently states that the refund process may take up to 60 days from the date you raise the cancellation request.

Therefore, don’t assume the security deposit will appear immediately after the router is collected.

What Conditions Are Required for the Refund?

Jio’s terms make the refund/closure conditional on several requirements.

Generally, you need to:

  1. Request discontinuation.
  2. Return the required equipment.
  3. Return equipment in working condition, subject to normal wear and tear.
  4. Settle applicable outstanding amounts.
  5. Comply with Jio’s return procedure.
  6. Complete the account closure process.

Jio’s terms specifically say the equipment should not be damaged, except for normal wear and tear, and that applicable monies must be recovered before the refundable deposit is released.

What If the Jio Router Is Damaged?

Don’t assume that every damaged device will result in the entire security deposit being lost.

Jio’s terms state that the equipment condition is evaluated during the return process and that charges for damage may apply where appropriate.

Therefore, if your router or Set Top Box has a problem:

Tell Jio about it during the return process.

Don’t attempt to repair or modify the device yourself.

Can You Keep the Jio Router After Cancellation?

Normally, you should not assume that you can keep it.

Jio’s current Fiber terms state:

JioFiber Router / Set Top Box / CPE remains the property of Jio and its affiliates.

JioAirFiber’s terms contain a similar requirement for its equipment.

Therefore:

Don’t sell it.

Don’t throw it away.

Don’t give it to someone else.

Wait for Jio’s return/collection instructions.

Does Jio Disconnect the Service Within 7 Days?

Jio’s 2025 Telecom Consumer Charter states that customers can request termination through consumer care, written request, email or a Jio Store, and that services will be disconnected within seven days of the request, subject to return/recovery of equipment where applicable.

This makes the date of your formal cancellation request important.

Keep your SR number or other proof showing when the request was submitted.

What Happens to the Remaining Prepaid Recharge?

This depends on the specific JioFiber prepaid arrangement.

Jio’s current prepaid terms state that certain amounts are refundable only under specific circumstances.

For example, Jio’s current prepaid terms state that the one-time refundable amount associated with the trial/installation arrangement is refundable if service is discontinued within the 30-day trial period, subject to the stated conditions and return of equipment.

Therefore, don’t assume that every unused prepaid recharge is automatically refundable.

Before cancelling, ask Jio:

“I have unused prepaid validity. Will any amount be refunded after disconnection?”

The answer can depend on your particular plan and terms.

Important: JioFiber Advance Rental Is Not Always Refundable

Jio’s current JioFiber postpaid terms contain an important rule:

Advance rental once paid is not refundable on deactivation of the JioFiber connection.

This is different from the refundable security deposit.

Therefore, don’t confuse:

Security deposit → potentially refundable after equipment return and closure

with

Advance rental → may be non-refundable under the applicable terms

Always check your invoice and plan terms.

What Happens to the JioFiber OTT Subscriptions?

If your JioFiber plan includes OTT subscriptions, those benefits are connected to the applicable service/plan.

Jio’s current postpaid terms state that long-term OTT subscriptions on eligible plans are subject to continuity of bill payments, and benefits can be withdrawn if there is a payment gap or migration to a lower denomination plan.

Therefore, after permanent broadband cancellation, don’t assume the bundled OTT benefits will continue.

If you pay separately for an OTT service outside the Jio bundle, that separate subscription is different and should be managed with the respective provider.

What If You Have JioFiber Postpaid?

The postpaid cancellation process deserves particular attention.

Before requesting cancellation:

  1. Check your latest bill.
  2. Check for outstanding dues.
  3. Check whether you paid a refundable security deposit.
  4. Check whether you have advance rental.
  5. Keep all Jio equipment ready.
  6. Request permanent disconnection.
  7. Return the equipment.
  8. Keep the return proof.
  9. Track the refund/closure.

Jio’s current postpaid terms specifically require equipment return and settlement of applicable obligations for closure and deposit release.

What If You Have JioFiber Prepaid?

For prepaid customers, the situation can be different.

Jio’s current prepaid terms state that:

  • Equipment remains Jio’s property.
  • Equipment must be returned when the service is surrendered.
  • Certain refundable amounts are subject to specific conditions.
  • Truly Unlimited plans have a commercial-use policy of 3,300 GB.
  • OTT benefits on eligible plans are subject to continued recharge.

Therefore, check your exact prepaid plan rather than assuming the postpaid refund rules apply to you.

What If You Have JioAirFiber Postpaid?

The process is similar to JioFiber.

Jio’s current AirFiber postpaid terms state that:

  • The Wi-Fi router, Set Top Box and CPE remain Jio’s property.
  • Equipment must be returned after termination/surrender.
  • Charges may be recovered for lost or damaged equipment.
  • OTT benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.

After requesting cancellation, follow Jio’s instructions for the collection/return of the AirFiber equipment.

Don’t Cancel If You Are Moving House

If you’re cancelling only because you’re shifting to another house, check Jio’s relocation option first.

Jio has a specific relocation process for JioFiber/JioAirFiber.

Its current relocation terms state that the existing equipment must be returned/handled as specified, the new address must pass feasibility, and the customer gets a new connection at the new location under the relocation process.

Jio also states that the remaining subscription amount, after applicable assessment, may be provided as a voucher for the new connection under the stated relocation conditions.

So if you are moving:

Ask Jio about relocation before permanently cancelling.

JioFiberSet Top BoxYes, if provided
JioFiberONT/CPEYes, where applicable
JioAirFiberWi-Fi RouterYes

JioAirFiberSet Top BoxYes, if provided

Jio’s terms state that the service equipment remains company property and must be returned upon surrender/termination, subject to the applicable process.

What If Jio Doesn’t Disconnect the Connection?

If you’ve already requested cancellation and the service is still active:

  1. Contact JioCare again.
  2. Provide your original SR number.
  3. Tell them the date you requested cancellation.
  4. Ask for the current status.
  5. Ask for the confirmed disconnection date.
  6. Keep the conversation/reference details.

If there is a billing dispute, explain that you had already submitted a formal termination request and provide the reference number.

Jio’s Telecom Consumer Charter provides a formal disconnection timeline and complaint mechanisms.

What If Jio Continues Billing After Cancellation?

Don’t simply ignore the bill.

First check:

  • Date of your cancellation request
  • Date of actual service termination
  • Billing period
  • Any outstanding amount
  • Equipment status
  • Whether the account is fully closed

Then contact JioCare with your cancellation reference.

If the issue remains unresolved, use Jio’s formal complaint/escalation channels.

What If You Don’t Return the Jio Equipment?

This can create an additional problem.

Jio’s current terms state that if the equipment isn’t returned, Jio and its affiliates may recover applicable charges for loss or damage.

Therefore:

Never assume that an unused Jio router is yours just because you received it with the connection.
